EDEN GIRLS' SCHOOL CAREERS ACTIVITY WORKSHOP

These workshops allow students to explore their future pathways as well as expectations in the World of Work and gives students the opportunity, along with the support of business engagement to examine: -
• Explore alternative People Like Me careers
• Network with business volunteers
This workshop held on the 14th Januay 2020 ran to prepare students ready for the Slough Aspire Careers Event. Firstly, the students took a quiz in which their personality type would direct them to what career type they may feel most comfortable in.
Secondly, students had an Q&A session, they had pre-prepared questions ready to ask a wide range of diverse business volunteers. Some of these questions included:
“Would you work for a company if they conducted animal testing and you did not believe in this?”
“Is this where you thought you would be 10 years ago?”
“is university or apprenticeships better?”

Learning from career & labour market information
This workshop was all about encouraging the student’s confidence when engagement with local business both on the day and at the Slough Aspire Careers Event.
Linking curriculum learning to careers
This personality quiz allowed students to identify a job they might like and then be able to pick their GCSE or A level options around this job to give themselves the best opportunity.
Encounters with employers & employees
Business volunteers joined Learning to Work throughout the workshop, they helped the students make choices in their quiz and furthered engagement during the Q&A panel.
Encounters with further & higher education
In the Q&A panel we had a mixture business volunteers that had either been a graduate or apprentice.
